For only the second time in the last 14 years, the Unioto Shermans beat the Zane Trace Pioneers in football. The 34-20 victory at Sherman Field, puts Unioto in a first place tie with Southeastern at (2-0) in the SVC.
The Shermans' defense would be a good consideration for being awarded the "game ball", as they forced five Pioneers' turnovers and sacked Zane Trace five times. They also got their offense started in Zane Trace territory three times in the first half and three times in the second half. Unioto would score on four of those six possessions. The "U" defense also held Zane Trace to 65 total yards in the first half, before yielding 253 for the game. Unioto piled up 330 total yards, with 253 on the ground.
Unioto quarterback Gabe Fisher led the Tanks with 155 yards on 22 carries, scored two touchdowns and passed for another, hitting Nehemiah Felts on a 71 yard TD pass. Jamarcus Carroll ran for 72 yards on 13 carries, scoring twice.
Zane Trace was led by Drew Rittenhouse, who had 10 catches for 105 yards and returned a kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown. Etheridge Games was held to 60 rushing yards on 21 carries, scoring one touchdown.
(1-1/3-2) Zane Trace travels to (2-0/5-0) Southeastern next Friday in the Herrnstein Hyundai SVC Game of the Week on 94 Country WKKJ.
(2-0/4-1) Unioto will host (1-1/2-3) Paint Valley.
