The Unioto Shermans have won the 2017 SVC Golf Championship, splitting the final two rounds with the runner-up Piketon Redstreaks.
Piketon won Match #7 Friday at Cooks Creek, only to see the Shermans bounce-back with a win in Match #8, clinching the conference title. Unioto entered the day, three points ahead of Piketon.
In Match #7, Piketon won by shooting a 163, one stroke ahead of Unioto. Piketon's Colton Blakeman was medal winner with a 38.
In Match #8, Unioto shot a 172, three strokes ahead of Piketon. Unioto's Ty Shobelock was medalist with a 38.
Unioto wins the team championship with 61 points for the season, Piketon is runner-up with 58, Westfall 49, Zane Trace 40 and Huntington 32. Southeastern, Adena and Paint Valley did not field teams this season, only individual participants.
Ty Shobelock of Unioto is the SVC Player of the Year with the lowest average score.
The Shermans regain the championship, after seeing the Redstreaks claim the crown in 2016. For Unioto, it's the 18th SVC Golf Championship since the conference added golf in 1993.
