Adena Health System Free Community Diabetes Expo, Oct. 21

Adena Health System wants to help those with diabetes to live a healthier life. Diabetes is a serious health condition in our community, but with proper education and planning patients can improve their health.

Adena is hosting a free Community Diabetes Expo offering many opportunities to learn about making better health choices for adults and children living with diabetes.

Join them Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the PACCAR Medical Education Center, located at 446 Hospital Road in Chillicothe.

According to the 2016 Ross County Community Health Needs Assessment, almost 30 percent of Ross County residents are considered overweight and nearly 36 percent are obese and are impacted by related issues such as heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.

Adena’s free diabetes education program will give participants the strategies and education they need to control diabetes, and to limit its impact on their future health. Guests will hear from experts and special guest, former Pittsburgh Steeler and diabetic Kendal Simmons, about ways to tackle diabetes and how to make healthier habits and lifestyle choices.

Lessons include: exercise and movement; well-being; and healthy eating; as well as The Cooking Caravan, an exciting educational experience for the whole family, featuring kids and audience members as sous chefs and judges in a chef’s square off and culinary competition. There will also be cooking demonstrations and samples of diabetic-friendly foods and recipes, with light, diabetic-friendly snacks included.

The Expo is free and open to the public. Participants are asked to pre-register by calling 740-779-8664 or going to www.adena.org/events.
