(Metro News) -- It feels more like January than November from the Midwest to the northeast. An Arctic blast caused temperatures to plunge and trigger lake-effect snow in Chicago Friday morning. Record lows were tied or broken from Minnesota to Michigan.
More record lows were expected Saturday morning as the cold front moves east, with temperatures dropping into the 20s from the Ohio Valley to Maine and down into the Mid-Atlantic. Strong winds will make it feel like it's in the teens. A freeze watch is in effect for much of the Mid-Atlantic, where the bitter cold could severely damage sensitive vegetation.
Temperatures have caused reported water line breaks in the area, including the Hillsboro Save-A-Lot, which had to close Saturday due to water pipes that burst.
