Serious Amish Buggy Crashes in Pike & Fairfield Counties

Two separate crashes involving Amish buggies in different counties, has led to a fatality in Pike County and several people injured in Fairfield County. 


(Pike County) -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a pick-up truck and an Amish buggy, that occurred on U.S. Route 32 in Pike County. 

A horse drawn carriage driven by 17-year-old Korie N. Swarey and passenger 18-year-old Barbara M. Swarey of Waverly was traveling east on US 32. A pickup driven by 23-year-old Cody T. Green of Colton, New York, was also eastbound when he rammed into the back of the buggy. 

Ms. Swarey was pronounced deceased at the scene by Pike County EMS, Mr. Swarey was transport to Cabell Huntington Hospital  by Medflight in critical condition. No injuries were reported by Mr. Green.


(Amanda, OH)  --  Six people are in the hospital and a horse is dead after an Amish buggy crash in Fairfield County. 

The State Highway Patrol says a car plowed into the buggy Sunday night on State Route 159 along Black Garrett Road near Amanda.  Two adults and four children on the buggy were hospitalized with cuts and broken bones.  

Their horse was euthanized after smashing into the car's windshield.

The driver of the car was handcuffed and the back of a cruiser, fire officials said.
