As winter approaches and the 2017 construction season winds down, another project is wrapping up this week with the reopening of state Route 28 in Highland County. Officials with ODOT confirmed S.R. 28 has been reopened to traffic following its closure between Barger and Martinsburg roads for a bridge replacement project.
Although the project experienced some weather and construction-related delays this fall, crews from Shelly and Sands, Incorporated completed the majority of construction to replace the bridge over Rattlesnake Creek on Friday afternoon, ODOT said. Built in 1930, the former three-span structure was replaced with a single-span, pre-stressed concrete I-beam bridge on semi-integral wall abutments.
In addition, Wilson Road, which was closed at its intersection with S.R. 28 for pavement reconstruction, has been reopened to traffic. Officials say crews may have some minor finishing work to complete; however, this will be done with the route open to motorists and traffic being maintained by flaggers as needed.
