The city of Portsmouth has replaced City Manager Derek Allen, after he was fired for malfeasance in office. Allen had been in the position since 2013.
Portsmouth Council has appointed Sam Sutherland, Director of Public Utilities, to fill the position on an interim basis.
Allen is accused of several acts of malfeasance, including physically striking a city employee on two occasions. He’s also accused of granting union workers a raise without council approval, creating a position in the city engineering office and granting a raise without council approval and firing two employees for theft- then rehiring one of them.
