Bridge Street Reopens After Gas Line Rupture

Traffic was restored to Bridge Street- just south of the Scioto River Bridge late Saturday afternoon after an underground gas line ruptured earlier in the day. Upon discovering the gas leak, Chillicothe Police blocked Bridge Street between Riverside and Water Streets at approximately 9:30am.

The street reopened at about 5pm.

The incident was described by Chillicothe Police Officer Bud Lytle as a "major gas leak", when it was discovered after Saturday morning.

Crews from Columbia Gas and city workers were called-in to make the needed gas line repair.

No word yet, on what caused the underground line to break.
