Supermoon Opens the New Year

By Kevin ColemanJan 1, 2018

The first full moon of 2018 will happen tonight, and it's super.

A "supermoon" occurs when the moon becomes full on the same day that it reaches its perigree, the point in the moon's elliptical orbit when it is closest to earth.

Another supermoon will take place January 31st - and according to NASA, will also feature a total lunar eclipse.
