Sole possession of second place in the SVC Boys Basketball standings belong to the Zane Trace Pioneers after an overtime thriller over Piketon Saturday night, 71-66. The Pioneers overcame a 13-point second half deficit to pull out the victory and keep them within one game of league leading Unioto, with their rematch slated for January 13th on 94 Country WKKJ.

The Pioneers also had to overcome Piketon's Tanner Perdue, who scored 37 points in a losing effort.

After trailing 6-1 and 8-3 to start the game, Piketon would have the lead after the first three quarters at 13-11, 31-21 and 44-41. The Redstreaks biggest leads came in the second half, when they held a 39-26 advantage early in the third quarter, before ZT went on an 11-2 run to cut it to 38-34.

The Pioneers had chances in regulation to put the game away, leading 52-47, but Piketon fought back to send it to overtime at 56-56. Zane Trace would once again build a 65-60 lead, only to see the Streaks go on a 6-0 run for a 66-65 lead. But, ZT would finish on a 6-0 run of their own for the 71-66 win.

One of the huge keys for Zane Trace was their eye-popping 29/41 field goal shooting for 70%. That coupled with 11/29 at the foul line at 2/6 from the arc.

Piketon was 28/61 from the field- including 3/14 from the arc for 46%. They also went 7/14 at the charity stripe.

The Pioneers used their size for a 27-20 rebounding edge and committed 13 turnovers to Piketon's 5. The Redstreaks had no first half turnovers, while ZT had 8.

Zane Trace had great performances from Triton Davidson and Isaac Beam, who led them with 22 and 21 points respectively. Davidson also had 10 rebounds and 3 blocked shots, including a big swat late in the game that prevented the Redstreaks from taking the lead in the closing minute of OT. Cameron Evans was held to just 3 points in the first half, but ended the game with 18.

Piketon's Tanner Perdue was unstoppable, pouring in 37 points to go along with his 9 rebounds. Tanner Veach and Alex Blanton each added 11 points.

The Pioneers upped their record to (5-1/8-2) while the Redstreaks dropped to (4-2/7-3).
