Freezing Rain Causes Morning Commute Mess

Freezing rain and icy roads greeted morning commuters in the Scioto Valley Monday, causing area law enforcement to administer road hazard conditions and many area schools either closed or were on some type of delay.

Snow emergencies were declared in every area county, including a Level 3 in Pike County, which means only emergency personnel should be on the roads. Ross and Pickaway were under Level 1 through the midday.

Numerous traffic accidents were reported during the morning rush, including a semi-tractor trailer crash that closed U.S. Route 35 East at the Pleasant Valley exit in Ross County closed traffic for three hours, but has since reopened.

A three vehicle crash, that also involved a semi on U.S. Route 23 on the south side of Waverly, has closed both southbound lanes.
