Huntsmen Lasso Mustangs for First SVC Win

The Huntington Huntsmen claimed their first SVC win of the season in a 54-47 decision over Westfall in a make-up game, making it the only SVC boys basketball contest of the night.

Huntington never trailed in the game and had leads as large as 11 points on three occasions, but still had to hold-off the Mustangs second half blitz. Trailing 41-30 midway through the third period, Westfall cut that margin to 44-38 after three and actually tied the game at 46-46, only to see the Huntsmen get back into the lead and pull away late at the foul line.

Elijah McCloskey poured in 27 points to lead all players, with teammate Seth Beeler adding another 13. D.J. Kinzer scored 6 points, but was even bigger on the glass with 13 rebounds.

Mustangs forward Trent Hampton came off the bench to score 17 points in leading their effort. Austin Nunemaker scored 10.

The Huntsmen shot 15/35 for the night- including 5/13 from the arc for 43%. They also were 19/29 at the charity stripe. Westfall was 16/46 for only 35%- including 6/21 at the arc. The Mustangs were also 15/20 at the foul line.

Huntington controlled the boards, winning that battle 32-19. The Huntsmen had 12 turnovers to 9 for Westfall.

Huntington improves to (1-7/2-10) and Westfall drops to (2-6/3-11).
