Pickaway & Ross Counties Record Fatal Crashes Wednesday

Wednesday's slick road conditions are being blamed on separate fatality crashes, with one in Pickaway County and another in Ross County.

A Wednesday afternoon traffic accident in Pickaway County claimed the life of a Chillicothe City School teacher. Alicia Carmalita Windon was killed when her westbound car slid out of control on State Route 762, went into a ditch where it overturned and struck a utility pole.

Windon was pronounced dead at the scene of the 4:36pm crash in Scioto Township of Pickaway County. Windon was a teacher at both Tiffin and Mount Logan Schools in Chillicothe.

Chillicothe City Schools Superintendent, Jon Saxton, issued the following statement Thursday in regards to Wednesday’s accident:

The Chillicothe City School District Board of Education and Administration wishes to extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family of Alicia “Carmalitta” Windon who was tragically killed in an automobile accident late yesterday afternoon in Pickaway County. Our hearts are heavy this morning as many are initially learning about this accident. Our staff members will gather before school begins to discuss plans for informing and offering counseling to our students today. Mrs. Windon has been an employee of the district since 2013 and was an outstanding and beloved Physical Education Teacher. Carmalitta’s warmth, love and care for others were reflected in her radiant and perpetual smile.

Additional Counselors have been contacted and will be available for staff and students in need of their services today. We appreciate the help being offered by other schools and agencies. We will continue to keep Carmalitta’s students, friends, colleagues and family in our thoughts and prayers.

In a separate crash late Wednesday evening, a 24-year-old Chillicothe woman also lost her life.
