Trailing 20-10 late in the first quarter and 24-16 early in the second period, Paint Valley used a 12-0 run to grab a lead they would never relinquish in a 64-52 win at Adena, Saturday night.
Adena came out on fire, shooting 57% in the first quarter, but the Bearcats kept pace at 54% and closed a double-digit deficit to 20-14 at the end of the period. Paint Valley outscored the Warriors 18-10 in that second quarter for a 32-30 lead at half. A 17-10 third quarter helped the Cats pull away to the win.
Three Bearcats hit for double-figures as sophomore Bryce Newland led way with 22 points- including six three-pointers. Dylan Swingle's 19 points made him Paint Valley's all-time leading scorer, surpassing Mick Shoemaker, while Hunter Hamlin added 17 points.
Adena saw junior Zach Fout led his club with 18 points, hitting his first three field goals from the arc and had 15 of his tally in the first half. Sophomore Caleb Fogelsong came off the bench to score 12 points.
For the game, Paint Valley was 26/47 for 55%- including 6/8 from the arc and 6/12 from the foul line. Adena was 21/49 from the field for 43%- including 4/15 from the arc and 6/10 at the charity stripe.
The Bearcats won the glass 28-18, with both teams committing 11 turnovers.
Paint Valley improves to (6-4/9-6) and will host Unioto on Friday, with 94 Country WKKJ broadcasting. Unioto won their 65th consecutive SVC game Saturday with a 65-28 victory over Westfall.
Adena dropped to (2-7/3-11) on the season.
