Freezing Rain Creates Havoc for Wednesday Commute

Wednesday morning motorists were greeted with an icy mess, as freezing rain overnight created a significant accumulation of ice on area roads and power lines. That has caused numerous traffic accidents and some reports of downed power lines.

All area schools were closed for the day and a power line fell over U.S. Route 23, closing both north and southbound lanes for more than four hours. It reopened at 9:45am.

A Winter Storm Warning is in place until 1pm, but it appears the lower Scioto River Valley might receive more rain/freezing rain than snow. Colder temperatures north of Columbus was expected to yield more snow fall than rain.
