The Pike County Sheriff's Deputy involved in the fatal shooting of a suspect last week has been identified.
The Chillicothe Gazette reports Deputy Erik M. Zirneskie was named through a records request as the officer involved in the fatal shooting of 35-year-old James M. Burks, of Peebles on Thursday, February 1st.
Burks was shot following an attempted traffic stop on State Route 124. He was with three other suspects when they pulled into a residential address and attempted to flee on foot. Deputy Zirneskie gave chase and a scuffle between Burks and Zirneskie ensued, which resulted in the fatal shooting. The other three suspects have not been identified.
According to the Gazette, Zirneskie has been with the Pike Sheriff's Office since August of 2016. He is now on paid administrative leave pending an investigation by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation's Crime Scene Division and an Officer Involved Shooting Investigative Unit from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
