With tax season in full swing, area residents still have time to take advantage of the local United Way's Free Tax Filing Assistance Program.
Kelli Yeager-Nelson, Director and CEO of the United Way of Ross County says taxpayers can make an appointment for the free service through Friday, April 13th.
"We Work in conjunction with the Internal Revenue Service for the program," said Yeager-Nelson. "If you make $54,000 or less annually, you can come in and we will prepare your taxes for free."
The United Way of Ross County has appointment openings between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
In addition to the help with returns, Kelli says they also offer assistance to those who owe back taxes.
"We also work to help people who maybe have back taxes from previous years they haven't been able to get done," said Yeager-Nelson. "All they need to do is make an appointment and we can handle that as well."
The free tax filing program has proved beneficial to taxpayers over the years. Last year the program was able to help nearly 1200 people file their taxes, generating approximately $1.6-million in tax refunds for the people of Ross County.
