The Ross County Court of Common Pleas will have a primary race on the Republican ticket in May. Local attorney Michele Rout is running against County Prosecutor Matt Schmidt for a seat on the court bench.
Rout says her professional experience as a lawyer, a public defender and as an assistant on the prosecution side of the law, makes her qualified to be elected as a judge. She also says as a parent of a child who went to prison for drugs, this gives her a unique view of law and order. She believes her daughter's addiction issue helps her to see the law with "compassion as well as accountability".
Rout added that "people are redeemable".
Next week we hear from candidate Matt Schmidt.
