Primary election day on May 8th, features a contested race for Ross County Common Pleas Judge on the Republican ticket. County Prosecutor Matt Schmidt is running against attorney Michele Rout.
Schmidt says while the fight will continue, Ross County is "making progress" in the issue of drug deaths in the county with help from the community, the courts, and law enforcement. He referred to last year being the first time Ross County has seen a decline in drug deaths, since the opiate crisis began.
He says specific things the courts are doing with law enforcement is also making a difference, such as the "drug courts" and more creative sentencing and beefing up the probation effort.
