A ceremonial groundbreaking for a new addition to Chillicothe's historic Majestic Theatre is set to take place on Tuesday, April 24th.
The groundbreaking is for the first of what is hoped to be four phases of additions and renovations. This first phase covers an addition to the courtyard side of the historic theatre.
"We were awarded a Capital Build Grant for $750,000," said Majestic Board Vice-President, Melody Young. "This will allow us to have an ADA entrance, new restrooms, and a new lobby area. It'll be about 2,900 square feet of space than we have now."
Visitors can expect the new addition to be completed by the end of this August. Young says a second Capital Build Grant has been also awarded for phase two of the project which will cover renovations to the second floor of the building. That phase will hopefully be completed by the end of the year 2020.
If funding can be secured, subsequent phases would cover additional floors up to the building's roof.
