An educator with the Chillicothe City School District made a visit to the Ohio House last week for special recognition of her efforts in music education.
Chillicothe City Schools Music Coordinator, Mala Kennard, was presented a resolution on the House floor by State Representative Gary Scherer as the recipient of the 2018 Music Educator of the Year.
Kennard has been with the city school system since 1989. She started as the Middle School Choral Director and in 2005 transitioned to the High School Choral Director.
“Mala was the first educator to visit me at the Statehouse when I got here 6 years ago,” said Scherer. “I am pleased that she was able to come to the House chambers and be recognized for her achievements.”
In addition to her classroom responsibilities, Kennard supervises other music staff and manages budgets and schedules as the district-wide coordinator.
