Unioto-Circleville Baseball Sweet 16 Preview

Their schools are approximately 21 miles from each other, but all indications point to Unioto and Circleville still having to travel 60+ miles (one way) to play their Division 2 Regional Baseball Semifinal, Thursday at 2pm.

The Chillicothe Paints confirmed to iHeart Media Sports they had notified the Ohio High School Athletic Association over the weekend that they were willing to host the D-2 Regional Tournament game between the two local teams, since VA Memorial Stadium only has one Division 3 Regional Semifinal that day, which is slated for 5pm. That game features Lucasville Valley against Minford.

The other D-3 semifinal pitting West Lafayette Ridgewood against Fredricktown has been assigned to Mount Vernon High School. The championship game on Friday, moves to a third location of Ohio State University.

As of press time for this story, the OHSAA website still lists Ohio University's "Bob Wren Stadium" as the host for both the Unioto-Circleville and Steubenville-John Glenn games at 2pm and 5pm respectively.

The Friday 5pm final would also be at Ohio University.

The Unioto Shermans enter the game with a record of (23-5) and ranked 4th in the state coaches association poll. The Circleville Tigers are (17-10).

Circleville is making their fifth Sweet 16 appearance in baseball and their first in a decade. Their 1998 trip got them to the Elite 8, before losing to Bexley.

The Tanks are gunning for a Final Four trip as well, having been there only twice in school baseball history. Those trips were in 1983 and 1991.

The game will be broadcast on 94 Country WKKJ & iHeart Radio, with airtime at 1:45pm and first pitch at 2pm.
