Lawless to Step Down as New Holland Police Chief

New Holland Police Chief, William Lawless has submitted his resignation.

Lawless will step down on July 15th.  The resignation follows a recently rocky tenure for the chief who was hired in 2016 to serve as Chief of Police and Village Administrator.

Lawless, along with his interim replacement, Captain David Conrad, were charged in May by the county sheriff's office with misdemeanor trespassing. According to the Columbus Dispatch, the two were charged after a resident reported that both were sitting in a car on the resident's property and had been requested to leave, but remained.

Lawless and Conrad told responding deputies they were conducting surveillance on a alleged drug purchase across the street. Lawless and Conrad have pleaded not guilty to the charge.
