New Holland Police Chief Resigns

The police chief of New Holland has submitted his resignation. Chief William Lawless will step down on July 15th.

The resignation follows a bumpy tenure for the chief since his was hired in 2016 to serve as police chief and village administration. Lawless, along with his interim replacement, Captain David Conrad, were charged by the county sheriff's office with misdemeanor trespassing.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, the two were charged after a resident reported that they were sitting in a car on the resident's property and had been requested to leave, but remained. Lawless and Conrad told responding deputies they were conducting surveillance on a alleged drug purchase across the street.

Lawless and Conrad have pleaded not guilty to the charge.
