Bumgardner Non-Renewed as Piketon Baseball Coach

Piketon Redstreaks

Piketon Redstreaks Baseball Coach Gene Bumgardner has been non-renewed as head coach, by the Scioto Valley Pike Board of Education.

Bumgardner informed iHeart Media Sports that the board of education told him they were "looking to go in another direction", but left an opening for him to re-apply for that position. He told iHeart Media that he has re-applied.

Bumgardner stated that a search committee was being formed to find a new coach.

Although his overall won-loss record was just two games above the .500 mark in his nine seasons as Piketon head coach (127-125), Gene Bumgardner was able to lead Piketon Baseball teams to tournament success in four of his nine years. He led the Redstreaks to four sectional titles, two district crowns and one Regional Runner-up finish.

Piketon won only one SVC Championship in that time frame (2013), but it was the first for Piketon Baseball since 1962. That title also garnered Bumgardner SVC "Coach of the Year" honors. He also coached eight All Ohio players in his tenure at Piketon.

Bumgardner also served as an assistant football coach at Huntington last fall.
