Semi Tanker Fire Closes Route 50

US Route 50 was closed early Sunday afternoon after the crash of a semi-tanker truck hauling gasoline that led to a fire of the truck in front of Paint Valley High School.

At approximately 1:46pm, a 2015 International ProStar, driven by 44-year-old Bill Stratford of McArthur, Ohio, was traveling southwest on U.S. Route 50. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a sign, overturned, and was fully engulfed in flames. Stratford was able to flee from the vehicle with minor injuries before the vehicle was fully engulfed.

Ohio Department of Transportation crews were able to reopen U.S. 50 to one lane about eight hours after the crash and fire. Flaggers will maintain traffic in the area of Paint Valley Local Schools Monday as crews will replace the damaged pavement.
