Goodwill Ready To Open New Circleville Site

Goodwill Industries of South Central Ohio

Goodwill Industries of South Central Ohio will open its Pickaway Activities and Training Center this Monday, August 27th.

With this center, Goodwill continues to further its mission of improving the quality of life and helping find jobs for those in Pickaway County with disabilities and barriers to employment. The center, inside the Goodwill retail store on U.S. 23 south across from Logan Elm Village, will focus on providing activities and training to introduce participants to various life skills experiences, take part in regular community events and activities and train them for employment in the private sector.

“One of our goals when we moved to the former Volunteers of America site was to find ways to better serve those with developmental disabilities,” said Marvin Jones, Goodwill CEO. “This training and activities center has great potential and we intend to listen and respond to the participants to meet their needs and goals.”

The center is designed to serve participants with developmental disabilities in and near Pickaway County. Goodwill staff will be working with the Pickaway County Board of Developmental Disabilities to determine what program activities best fit the needs of those in Pickaway County. Possibilities include classes on cooking, art, music, learning to make crafts and exploring new hobbies as well as day trips for shopping, visiting area attractions or other personal choices.

In addition to the activities, Goodwill offers a workforce development component that will provide assistance for individuals to obtain, maintain or advance in community employment or self-employment. Participants will have access to computers to explore careers and hear from instructors to prepare resumes, hone their interviewing techniques and other skills necessary to obtaining employment.

Transportation for participants is available.
