There will be plenty of entertainment to scare up this weekend in downtown Chillicothe as the city's annual Halloween Festival kicks off in Yoctangee Park this Friday.
"The Halloween Festival is all about the season and having fun, and enjoying all the fun that Halloween brings," said Gene Betts, President of the Chillicothe Halloween Festival Committee. "It's a three-day festival that starts on Friday, October 12th and runs through Sunday, October 14th.
Gene says a special preview night will precede Friday's festival start. That includes a Pumpkin Carving Contest that begins at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
"We've got the pumpkin carving that helps us set up and decorate the Eagles' Bandstand," said Betts. "Entry for that will be on Thursday with the winners announced on Friday evening."
Friday and Saturday's entertainment will include a couple a theatrical musical performances.
"Friday night is by an Ozzy Osborne tribute band called Ultimate Ozzy," said Betts. "Saturday night's entertainment is by a band called Sweet Pain, they are a Kiss tribute."
The Halloween Festival also features a costume contest on Saturday and Coffin Races on Sunday. New to the festival this year is a thirteen-room haunted house.
"This all takes place in Yoctangee Park," said Betts. "We've got a portable stage that will be set up for the bands and our guest presentations. The haunted house and all the rides will be located in the park."
