Sheridan Stuns Unioto in D-2 VB Final

Unioto was looking for a break-out tournament run this fall after failing to advance past the district finals the last few years, but were unable to accomplish that mission, falling to Sheridan 25-11, 25-14, 19-25, 25-22 in the Division 2 District Final Saturday at Southeastern High School.

The Generals came flying out of the gate in the first two sets, pushing the Shermans back on their heals and seeing Unioto making uncharacteristic errors at the net and in setting errors.

Unioto got their game together in Set 3, coming back to win and had a lead midway through Set 4 by as many as four points. Then trailing 18-15, Sheridan went on a 6-0 run for a 21-18 lead and later had match-point at 24-19. Unioto staved off elimination with three straight points, before the Generals ended it with a kill out of the middle for the district championship victory.

Sheridan's Emma Conrad led the charge with 15 kills and 8 digs, while Kendyl Mick added 9 kills and Brooklyn Heller 8 kills and 18 digs. Three other players combined for 14 kills.

Unioto got 14 kills from Jocie Fisher and 11 kills and 3 blocks from Amanda McGlone. Cree Stulley added 6. Hallie Pinkerton anchored the backrow defense with 18 digs and Amber Cottrill had 11.

Unioto stayed alive thanks to 9 serving aces, but Sheridan had 6 of their own.

Both teams stand at (23-3) on the season, with Sheridan headed to the Sweet 16 and the Shermans ending their season with an SVC co-championship and a district runner-up.
