Columbus Opens New Vets Memorial & Museum

Hundreds of military veterans and their families and other supporters gathered Saturday to help open the National Veterans Memorial and Museum near downtown Columbus.

Retired General Colin Powell keynoted the event, urging honor and civility across the nation, during a week in which bomb packages and a mass shooting at a synagogue were in the news.

The massive museum had been under construction for more than a year. It features video, audio and written accounts of military service from a handful of the country's 42-million military vets.
