Giving up a two-point safety in their second possession of the game proved to be an omen of bad things to come Friday, as the Paint Valley Bearcats saw their season draw to close in a 40-6 to Shadyside in the D-6 Football Regional Semis at Zanesville High School.
The Tigers rolled to a 34-0 halftime lead, which put the continuous clock into play the second half, where Shadyside extended their lead to 40-0 going into the final quarter.
The Tigers offense slowed in the 4th with Paint Valley holding Shadyside scoreless. The Bearcats offense came to life midway through the 4th quarter with Bryce Newland completing a pass to Cruz McFadden who ran it in for a touchdown to make the 40-6 final.
Shadyside racked up 266 total yards with 170 on the ground, compared to the Bearcats being held to 165 total yards with only 78 yards rushing for the game and were 4 of 16 on passing for 93 yards. The Bearcats also turned the ball over 3 times and had one safety.
Ian Cockrell had 3 carries for Paint Valley for 31 yards. Bryce Newland was 4 of 16 on passing for 93 total yards, including one TD pass. Cruz McFadden ran in the Bearcats’ lone touchdown for 30 yards.
A solid showing for Tiger Conner Banco, who had 15 carries for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Paint Valley concludes their season at (11-1), SVC Gold Ball Champs and advanced to the Sweet 16.
(10-2) Shadyside now goes on to play (12-0) Fort Frye, who spanked Galion Northmoor 41-23.
