Ross County authorities are putting out a warning of a phone scam involving the county sheriff’s office.
Ross County Sheriff, George Lavender, says residents have reported receiving phone calls from a number mimicking a number from the sheriff’s office. He says the caller will identify themselves as an employee of the Ross County Sheriff’s Office and then claim the person they called has a relative in legal trouble. The caller then asks them to provide money and personal information to resolve the issue.
Sheriff Lavender says even though the number the call comes in on is that of a number associated with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, the call is not from the office.
The Sheriff says if you should receive one of these calls, you should not reveal any personal information but simply hang up and then report to call to his office.
