The school halls are decked with boughs of holly, and the music departments at Washington Court House City Schools are ready to ring in the season this weekend.
“Christmas with the Bands of WMS & WHS,” will kick off Saturday morning, and “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” will be presented by the choirs on Sunday afternoon.
The weekend will begin with “Christmas with the Bands of WMS & WHS,” on Saturday morning. Doors will open at 8:00 AM, with a selection of donuts, hot chocolate, and coffee, available for purchase.
The community is invited to this light breakfast before enjoying the performances from the WMS 7th Grade Band, WMS 8th Grade Band, and WHS Blue Lion Marching Band.
Concertgoers will enjoy a wide variety of instrumental selections, from classics like “Sleigh Ride,” to modern hits such as “Believe,” from Polar Express. The performance will also feature variations of holiday songs, such as “Christmas on the Farm,” “Deck the Halls with Bells and Whistles,” and many more.
This concert is free admission for all attendees. The first song will be performed at 9:00 AM on Saturday, December 8th, in the Washington High School gymnasium.
“Join us for a fun morning to get in the Christmas spirit,” said WMS band director Ben Streitenberger, “you donut want to miss it. ”On Sunday afternoon, the community is invited to “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” this year’s annual holiday concert, brought to you by the vocal music departments of Washington Middle School and Washington High School.
Student-musicians from the WMS 7th Grade Choir, WMS 8th Grade Choir, WHS SSAA Chorus, WHS TTBB Chorus, and the WHS Symphonic Choir are excited to perform an array of holiday hits for the community.
“Some exciting parts of the concert will include a collaboration between 7th Grade Choir and TTBB Chorus on an upbeat version of "Born, Born in Bethlehem,"” said WHS vocal music director Jared Joseph, “as well as a gorgeous work for sopranos and altos with piano and violins. ”Alumni will also be invited to join the Symphonic Choir in a performance of, “Silent Night.”
This annual tradition is open to any Blue Lion who sang in choir during their time in Washington High School, regardless of their era and director.

Admission is free for all concertgoers, with donations accepted at the door. The music begins at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 9th, in the Washington Historic Auditorium.
