The Zane Trace Pioneers continue their march toward a possible SVC boys basketball title, as they run their conference record to (10-0) with a 60-46 win at Huntington Saturday night, as it was one of only two SVC games that were played on a night of threatening winter weather.
Huntington took an early lead of 12-7 late in the first period, but then saw ZT come alive with an 11-0 run to grab an 18-12 lead. The Huntsmen pulled to within 18-17, but by halftime the Pioneers had built a 31-21 advantage.
The last time Huntington got close in the second half was at 33-27, before the Pioneers went on another of 9-0 for a 42-27 lead and never saw their lead go below double digits the rest of the game.
The lone down moment for Zane Trace came at 3:30 left in the third quarter when guard Colby Swain went down with an ankle injury and didn't return. Coach Gary Kellough said after the game he believes the injury is an "ankle sprain".
The Pioneers were led by Cam Evans' 27 points, followed by Nick Nesser's 16 points. Huntington got double digits from Seth Beeler and Elijah McCloskey with 19 and 16 respectively.
Zane Trace shot 22/47 for 47%- including 3/7 from the arc. ZT also shined at the foul line, where they were 13/16. Huntington shot 20/44 for 45%- including 4/16 from the arc. They only went 2/5 from the foul line.
ZT won the rebounding battle 24-19. Huntington committed 16 turnovers and ZT had 7.
The Pioneers improve to (10-0/13-3) and Huntington drops to (2-8/4-11).
