Chillicothe PD Report Store Robbery

Chillicothe Police are investigating a robbery at the HD Mart on Western Avenue. It took place shortly before 9:30 a.m. Sunday, January 27th.

According to a Chillicothe Police report, a clerk at the store told officers that a white male subject had come into the store and claimed to have a gun after attempting to make a purchase of tobacco products, which he did not have enough money to pay for.

The clerk told officers she felt sorry for the man and offered to purchase him a cup of coffee. After making the coffee, the suspect returned to the counter where the clerk jokingly asked him if he had any weapons.

The suspect responded that he did and then demanded that the clerk open both registers and give him money. The clerk only opened one register, refusing to open the second, even under threat that he would shoot her if she didn’t. Following that refusal, the suspect then fled the store.

The suspect was described as standing 5’5” with a thin frail build. He was also wearing a gray zip-up hoodie and dark gray sweatpants. He also had most of his face covered with a t-shirt when he entered the store.

Prior to fleeing the scene, the suspect had told the clerk he was on his way to work at a local restaurant  An investigating officer visited the restaurant  and was informed by another employee that they may  have an employee matching the HD Mart clerk’s description., and that she  had witnessed that employee walking along Western Avenue earlier that same day, wearing the same  type of hoodie described by the clerk.

An arrest has yet to be announced as the case remains under investigation.

The report did not mention whether or not any money was actually taken from the store.
