The City of Chillicothe is once again preparing for its annual large item pick-up service. Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney announced Monday that large item collection this year will begin during the first week of June.
City Service Director Jeff Carman says this year’s five-week program will be conducted under the same schedule as in recent years past, with a neighborhood’s collection week corresponding to its trash collection day.
For example if a neighborhood’s trash is gathered on Monday, then that neighborhood’s large item collection will take place during the first week of collection which starts Monday, June 3rd. A neighborhood with Tuesday trash collection will see its large item collection begin the second week, and so on.
Large items must be kept separate from regular trash pick-up and should be placed at the curb in front your residence by the start of that week’s collection. There will be no collection service in alleys, and Service Department personnel are not permitted on private property.
Items the city will collect are: carpet, furniture, mattresses and other similar items. Paint cans will also be collected provided they have been dried out or mixed with sawdust.
Items that are not permissible for collection are: appliances both large and small, electronic items, heating devices, hot water tanks, computer equipment and air conditioning units. Basically, if an item has a plug or requires batteries the city will not collect it. Other items prohibited are materials from demolitions or remodeling, tires, batteries, chemicals or hazardous materials.
The full large item collection schedule is as follows:
