Regional Science Bowl Tournament Comes to Portsmouth This Friday

Thousands of students from middle and high schools across the country are preparing to compete in the Department of Energy’s 29th National Science Bowl.

Student teams from just about every school in Ross County will be participating. That includes teams from Zane Trace, Unioto, Piketon, Huntington, and Chillicothe. They’ll be joined by student teams from schools in Pike, Jackson and Scioto counties.

The local competition, takes place this Friday, March 15th at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, with four students from each team facing off in a fast-paced, question-and-answer format. The competition tests students’ knowledge in all areas of science and mathematics.

The winning team from each region will compete in the National Finals, held in Washington, D.C. from April 25th to April 29th.

Wheelersburg High School will be going for a three-peat as regional champions after winning back-to-back championships in 2017 and 2018. However, Unioto, Portsmouth Notre Dame and Northwest High Schools all made deep runs into the final four last year.
