(iHeart Media News) -- Lawmakers in Columbus are combing through a new report recommending sweeping changes to funding schools. Legislators at the Statehouse are considering the conclusion of a School Funding Workgroup, and their efforts of more than a year. The mission: to resolve the long-standing problem of poor districts versus rich districts.
State Rep John Patterson is an Ashtabula Democrat asked what does it cost to educate the average student in the State of Ohio? He said as consumers, we know the answer to what the purchase price is for anything we want to buy, so why don't Ohioans know what it actually costs to educate a child?
That group is recommending funding schools using a 60-40 split... slightly more property tax, slightly less income tax.
