Laurelville Closing Village Police Department

(24/7 News) -- The small community of Laurelville is dissolving the village's police force in favor of using the Hocking County Sheriff's Department.

The village council voted unanimously to shutter the police force which had been staffed by mostly volunteer officers raising concerns about the level of law enforcement being provided.

The Hocking County Sheriff said it would utilize the village police department facilities as a new sub-station which will allow deputies to have an office space.

Laurelville is located outside the Hocking State Forest with an elementary school and public library branch serving around 525 residents.
