Large Fire Reported in Fayette County on Old U.S. 35, Near Boyd Road

Authorities and fire crews from Fayette County and Ross counties were called to the scene of a large fire on property located along Old U.S. 35.

Fayette County Sheriff's dispatch and those on the scene of the fire confirmed the status at 4:15pm and again at 4:50pm, Tuesday. Medical helicopters were called to scene where three people were injured. Two victims had burn injuries and smoke inhalation. They were flown to Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center. One male victim had burns over 30% to 35% of his body. A third helicopter was sent to a helipad at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Almost 180 of the 18-hundred hogs on the property were killed in the blaze which destroyed the structure.

The property is the Staathoff Swine Farm in Wayne Township, located at 7111 Old U.S. 35, near Boyd Road, northwest of Frankfort. It's the same location of a June 2018 fire that claimed the lives of 5,000 hogs. The fire is reported to have occurred in the new hog barn, reconstructed following last year's fire.
