As part of an ongoing pavement repair and resurfacing project on U.S. Route 35 in Ross County, the Eastern Avenue overpass will get a facelift as well, and work will take place next week.

Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation are undertaking a resurfacing project from the County Road 550 interchange to just east of the S.R. 159 interchange, and from the U.S. 23 split (end of the U.S. 35/23 overlap) to the U.S. 50 interchange. Although it wasn’t initially included in the project, work will now include deck repair and paving on the Eastern Avenue overpass bridge.

During the week of May 6, the Eastern Avenue bridge situated over U.S. 35 will be closed, and the off-ramp from U.S. 35 westbound to Eastern Avenue will be closed throughout the week as well. The closure is necessary for the contractors to maneuver equipment and expedite operations to repair the deck, mill and pave the surface.
-
The closure will be in effect from approximately 8 a.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Friday, May 10, or until all work is completed, and completion of the project will be contingent upon the weather. While the section of roadway is closed, motorists will be detoured by way of Main and Bridge streets in Chillicothe.

The Shelly Company was awarded a contract in the fall of 2018 to undertake the resurfacing project, and throughout construction on U.S. 35, traffic will be maintained in a minimum of one lane in each direction, and a variable speed limit will be in effect through the construction zone.
