Interim Dean Announced for Ohio University Chillicothe Campus

Ohio University Executive Vice President and Provost Chaden Djalali has announced that Dr. Dywayne Nicely, who currently serves as the campus Interim Associate Dean and Associate Professor of Mathematics, has been appointed Interim Dean for the Chillicothe campus effective July 1, 2019. The vacancy was established after Dr. Martin Tuck announced his retirement effective June 30, 2019.

Since 2010, Nicely has been employed as a professor of Mathematics for the Chillicothe campus. Starting as an Assistant Professor, he received tenure and was promoted to Associate Professor of Mathematics in 2016. Nicely has been serving as Interim Associate Dean since July 2, 2018.

His professional experience also includes serving as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics for Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Florida and for the University of Charleston in Charleston, WV.

Nicely attended Marshall University in West Virginia and completed a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 2001 and a Master of Arts Degree in Mathematics in 2003. In 2008, he completed his Doctoral Degree in Mathematics from Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

Dean Tuck remarked, “I strongly feel Dywayne possesses the organizational, management, and leadership skills to be a very effective Dean for the campus. The campus is in good hands with Dywayne assuming this leadership role.”

Nicely is looking forward to serving as the campus dean while the university transforms. He shared, “These are exciting times for Ohio University and the Chillicothe campus. As the university integrates via the One OHIO model, OHIO Chillicothe has a tremendous opportunity to help reshape the future of Ohio University.I believe the One OHIO integrated educational model will help us improve the quality and access that OHIO Chillicothe provides to the area.”

Nicely also commented, “I have had the pleasure of working with DeanTuck formerly my entire career at OHIO Chillicothe. Marty has been a true mentor to me and I’ve learned a great deal during the past year as his Associate Dean. His leadership and advocacy have reached well beyond the Chillicothe campus because he was so heavily involved in the community. My aim is to continue that legacy and to be as equally engaged in the community while I serve as Interim Dean.”

“I’m honored by the support that I have from Provost Djalali and my colleagues on the Chillicothe campus to lead OHIO Chillicothe during this period of transition,” shared Nicely.

Nicely and his family currently reside in Chillicothe, Ohio.
