Adena Halts Unioto SVC Baseball Title Hope

Unioto saw their hope of a share of the SVC Baseball championship vanish Monday, as Adena beat the Tanks 6-3. The Warriors scored three runs in the second, two in the fourth and added a run in the fifth for the victory. The Unioto loss will create an undisputed SVC Champ for the winner of Tuesday's Zane Trace at Westfall game.

The Shermans scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, when Warriors starting pitcher Ethan Kunkel walked in a run with the bases loaded. The Warriors countered with three runs in the bottom of the same inning, powered by a two-run single by Zach Fout followed by an RBI single from Caleb Fogelsong for a 3-1 advantage.

Unioto closed the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the fourth on an RBI bases loaded single by Connor McCloy, but the potential tying run was thrown out at the plate by Adena center fielder Zach Fout. The Warriors made it 4-2 with an RBI single from Lucas Fogelsong in the home fourth inning, followed later by an RBI sacrifice fly from Jarrett Garrison for a 5-2 lead. In the fifth, Adena extended their lead to 6-2 when a runner scored from third on a wild pitch.

Unioto tacked on their final run in the sixth inning with a man scoring on a fielders choice, making it 6-3. Jarrett Garrison came on in relief of Ethan Kunkel with runners at first and second and forced a pop-out to end the threat.

Garrison retired Unioto in the 7th inning to gain the save, while Kunkel gets the win and Cameron Debord suffered the pitching loss for the Shermans.
