The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash which occurred on US 35 near Eastern Avenue, in the active construction zone.

The crash occurred on Wednesday, (May 8) at approximately 3:30pm, when a motorcycle operated by 46-year-old Jennifer R. Miller of Lexington, Kentucky was attempting to merge from Eastern Avenue onto US 35 eastbound. A second motorcycle operated by 42-year-old Susan Downs of Boston, Kentucky, was behind Ms. Miller and also attempting to merge onto US 35 eastbound. Miller was thrown from her motorcycle after it overturned. She was struck by a semi truck driven by 28-year-old Nicholas Kaufman of Nowthen, Minnesota.

Ms. Downs struck Ms. Miller’s motorcycle. Miller died from her injuries at the scene. Downs suffered minor injuries but refused to be treated at the scene. Mr. Kaufman was not injured.

US 35 was closed for approximately one hour. ODOT responded to the scene to assist with traffic. The Scioto Township Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene.
