Piketon Man Dies in Double Fatality Crash in Scioto County

Two people died from injuries suffered in a single car crash Saturday, on State Route 104 in Scioto County. Front seat passenger, 27-year-old Casey D. Fritz of Piketon, was pronounced dead at the scene and rear seat passenger, 28-year-old James A. Phipps of West Portsmouth, was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center, where he died as a result of his injuries.

The Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol received a call of a crash at 11:12am on State Route 104- approximately four miles north of State Route 348.

25-year-old Steven R. Vaughn of Piketon, was traveling northbound on State Route 104 in a 2005 Chevy Impala when he drove off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. As a result of the crash, Mr. Vaughn received serious non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth then flown the Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

A 4th passenger, 1-year-old Mathias C. Vaughn of Piketon, was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center then flown to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.
