WV Couple Killed in Fayette County Traffic Accident

The Fayette County Sheriff a fatal crash that claimed the lives of a West Virginia man and woman early Saturday morning.

At 3:56am Saturday morning, deputies were dispatched to U.S. Route 35 East in Wayne Township for a one-vehicle crash. During the investigation, deputies discovered that a vehicle operated by 24-year-old Stephen S. Rainey of Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia was traveling east on U.S. Route 35 and lost control, traveling off the left side of the roadway into the median. Rainey continued eastbound before striking two guardrails and became airborne over a bridge and waterway, striking an embankment and coming to rest.

Rainey was transported from the scene to Fayette County Memorial Hospital where he later died. The front seat passenger in the Rainey vehicle, identified as 26-year-old Angelica M. Brumfield, also of Gallipolis Ferry, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

Three backseat passengers from the Dayton, Ohio area were all transported from the scene by EMS to various medical centers for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

In a separate crash at 1:03pm Saturday afternoon, deputies responded to a one-vehicle traffic crash on U.S. Route #22E near the intersection of Bogus Road.

A vehicle pulling a cargo trailer was traveling east on U.S. Route #22E, operated by 51-year-old William H. Dinkins of Circleville, when the cargo trailer began to fishtail, causing Dinkins to travel off the right side of the roadway and overturn.

Dinkins was entrapped inside the vehicle and extricated. Dinkins was transported from the scene by Med Flight to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio for medical treatment. A front seat passenger in the vehicle, identified as 22-year-old Daniel J. Dinkins, also of Circleville, was also injured and transported by Fayette County EMS to Fayette County Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.

The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene. Dinkins was cited for Failure to Control a Motor Vehicle.
