Sixth Annual Chillicothe Challenge Set for This Saturday

-

An Amazing Race-style team competition is taking place this weekend in downtown Chillicothe.

-

Young Life Ross County conducts the sixth annual Chillicothe Challenge this Saturday. That annual challenge pits teams of two to six players against one another as they work to solve a series of tasks and obstacles set up at various downtown businesses and other downtown locations. Dan Hill is the Director of Young Life Ross County, he says the Chillicothe Challenge was started six years ago as a way to promote the various shops and restaurants throughout the downtown area.

-

"It primarily highlights the downtown businesses," said Hill. "You complete tasks and challenges inside the businesses to receive points. There are also other sort of marquee challenges set up throughout the downtown, outside of the businesses, primarily in Yoctangee Park."

-

The challenges are not revealed to players prior to the race, but past challenges have included inflatable obstacle courses and games such as messy twister.

-

"The race course is application based," said Hill. "We use a mobile app called Goosechase. At 9:00 a.m. when the event begins, the race course goes live and all of the tasks, challenges and locations are all listed, so you can map you're own course."

-

The challenges can be completed in any order. Teams have a limited time frame to complete the challenges, which offer differing amounts of points.

-

"You compete for points and you're competing as a team," said Hill. "At the end we score it all up and the team with the most points wins the Chillicothe Challenge."

-

Though the race gets underway this Saturday morning, Dan says there's still time to put together a team and register. It's $115 per team, regardless of the number of team members, and those who'd like to take part have until Friday to register online at rosscounty.younglife.org. Day of race registration will also be available prior to the race's 9:00 a.m. start. Organizers will be set up at 7:30 a.m. at the Adena clinic, located at the corner of Water and Walnut Streets. Teams of minors should be accompanied by at least on adult.

-

Proceeds raised from the Chillicothe Challenge benefit Young Life Ross County youth ministry.

-

"All of the proceeds benefit Young Life Ross County, a student misistry here in town" said Hill. "One hundred-percent of that goes to helping students right here in Ross County attend a Young Life summer camp."

-

Ross County Young Life Summer Camp is open to all Ross County students and takes place beginning next week, from Monday, June 10th to Friday, June 22nd. Find more information on the Young Life Summer Camp HERE.

Those participating in this Saturday's Chillicothe Challenge are encouraged to play safe by obeying all local pedestrian laws. Motorists are advised to employ extra caution when traveling through downtown Chillicothe while the race is underway. Around 150 to 200 players will be taking part.
