Smoke Free Zones Being "Encouraged" at Local Public Parks

In case you haven't noticed, non-binding smoke free zones have been established with signage at Chillicothe City and Ross County public parks.

Kelly Dennis, with the Ross County Health District, says this came from the Partners for Healthier Ross County Committee in an effort to get people to stop smoking.

Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney believes it is a matter of common sense and courtesy for others.

.

The smoke free zones are not enforceable, since they are not in enclosed areas, where state law does ban smoking. However, the mayor and Kelly Dennis says indications are that smokers are "respecting" those zones, and going elsewhere to smoke in the parks.
