A former local sports and news reporter in the Scioto Valley has passed away. 79-year-old David McMillen died Tuesday morning at his Chillicothe home following an extended illness. He is survived by his wife, Phoebe.

McMillen worked for the Chillicothe Gazette and later served as the news/sports director for the Horizon Plus Four news service.

iHeart Media Sports Director Mike Smith had this quote about his years of working alongside Dave McMillen; "Dave was not only a great guy, but one of the best sports writers we have ever seen in Chillicothe. He was conscientious about his work and always fair to the coaches and athletes he covered. He was also a great historian of local high school sports and continued to follow that history for many years after his retirement. I have truly missed working with him in recent years due to his poor health. I can say without question that the local sports world has lost a great friend and one of the best at his job".
