Double Fatal Wrong-Way Crash On U.S. 23 in Pickaway County

Two people were killed, while two other people that included a Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper, were injured in a wrong-way crash on US 23 near Circleville Saturday night. The crash occurred at just before 10:45pm when the vehicle, driving the wrong way, slammed into the patrol cruiser and then hit another vehicle.

The state trooper was driving southbound on U.S. 23 when he saw a wrong-way driver coming towards him. The trooper turned on his emergency lights in an effort to get the driver's attention to stop, but the driver side-swiped the patrol car.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol identified the wrong-way driver as 56-year-old Carol J. Fowler of Pickerington. She was also killed. Her car had caught on fire, and the trooper injured himself breaking the window to try to rescue her.

17-year-old Joshua Fyffe of Ashville was killed in the crash and a 17-year-old passenger in his car was flown to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. Another driver received minor injuries.

The trooper turned around and attempted to catch up to the driver but the wrong-way driver hit two other vehicles.
